Cause Of Hair Loss And Treatment For It

Hair loss is a very common condition and affects most people at some point of time in their lives. Hair loss from breakage of the hair shaft is different than hair loss from decreased hair growth. Androgenetic hair loss is seen in both men and women but is worse in men.

Androgenetic alopecia is a common form of hair loss in both men and women. In men, it is also known as male pattern baldness. Hair is lost in a well-defined pattern, beginning above both temples. The pattern of hair loss in women differs from male pattern baldness. In women, the hair becomes thinner all over the head, and the hairline does not recede. Androgenetic alopecia in women rarely leads to total baldness.

Causes of hair loss

Most hair loss is not associated with systemic or internal disease, nor is poor diet a frequent factor. Hair may simply thin as a result of predetermined genetic factors and the overall aging process. Many men and women may notice mild physiologic thinning of hair starting in their 30s and 40s. Life vicissitudes, including illness, emotional trauma, protein deprivation (during strict dieting), and hormonal changes like those in pregnancy, puberty and menopause may cause a reversible hair loss.

Other causes of hair loss:
  • Ringworm of the scalp, which is common in children.
  • Mental stress or physical stress, such as recent surgery, illness, or high fever. You may have a lot of hair loss 1 to 3 months after severe physical or emotional stress. Your hair usually will grow back within a few months.
  • Hair styling and products. Pulling your hair back too tightly or wearing tight braids or ponytails can cause hair loss. You may lose hair around the edge of the hairline, especially around the face and forehead. Using curling irons or dyes, a lot can also result in hair loss. Hair usually grows back when you stop doing these things.
  • Age. As you age, your hair tends to break more easily, and hair follicles do not grow as much hair.
  • Poor nutrition, especially lack of protein or iron in the diet. Hair returns after you change your diet to get enough of these nutrients.
  • Thyroid diseases, including hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
Treatment for hair loss

Anti hair loss oilThere are about 100,000 strands of hair on your scalp and it is considered very normal to lose 50 to 100 strands a day. Diaper Rashes Can Happen To Babies & Adults Both

Diaper Rashes
Diaper rashes are not only quite common in babies, but adults can also have the same. It can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Diaper rashes can be caused due to several reasons and it has several treatments as well. In this blog, we'll tell about this annoying problem and the steps to prevent and cure it.

Is Diaper Rash a big deal?
To put it simply, diaper rash is a kind of allergy or rash that is caused when the victim's skin reacts adversely to his or her diapers. This rash includes the skin's redness, soreness, tenderness as well as allergic reactions. Diaper rash can occur to anybody who is using a diaper, no matter what his or her age is. The severity of the problem can range from a few prickly red spots in a small area to tender red bumps that spread to the tummy and thighs. But no matter what the severity is, it is entirely curable.

7 Crucial Symptoms of Diaper Rash
  • Bright red rash that gets bigger.
  • Fiery red and scaly areas on the scrotum and penis in boys.
  • Red or scaly areas on the labia and vagina in girls.
  • Pimples, blisters, ulcers, large bumps, or pus-filled sores.
  • Smaller red patches (called satellite lesions) that grow and blend in with the other patches.
  • Older infants may scratch when the diaper is removed.
  • Diaper rashes usually do not spread usually beyond the edge of the diaper.
Causes of Diaper Rash

The causes of Diaper Rash can be many starting from unsuitability to the diaper's material to wetness caused by urine, etc. Here are some of the common ones.
  • Wetness – Wetness due to the accumulation of urine and faeces is the number one cause of diaper rash. When urine mixes with bacteria from stool it produces ammonia which can be very harsh. That is why it is essential to change diapers regularly and not to leave it on for too long. But don't think leaving a diaper overtime is the only cause of rash, it can occur even if the victim's skin is over sensitive.
  • Diaper unsuitability - Babies with sensitive skin can get a rash just by rubbing their skin against a diaper or if they’re allergic to the fragrance of the disposable diaper. In case of cloth diapers, detergents used to clean them might cause sensitivity to the skin or it may also be that the lotion or powder you use is not suited to the baby’s skin.
  • Solid food – It has been noticed that babies have greater susceptibility to diaper rash when they start eating solids. This is because their food intake changes their stool composition, which in turn may react on the baby's skin if lying in the diaper for so long. Breast-feeding mothers need to be careful as what they eat might affect the child's bowel movements, which may result in diaper rash.
  • Infections – We all know bacteria and germs multiply in places where there is plenty of moisture. This makes the diaper, an ideal spot for them, and they in turn cause rashes. The cracks and folds of the baby's skin are particularly susceptible to such bacterial infection.
How to treat a diaper rash?

Avoid diapers for the time-being. Allow the baby's skin to breathe a little both in order to cure the rash quickly and prevent it from occurring again. Keep him in cot lined with waterproof cloth or let him play on the floor in a designated area so that only that particular area is dirted.

Rinse diapers well. Pat your baby's skin dry instead of rubbing it. Use warm water while cleaning the baby. Remember the diaper may be used when it's necessary, not when you find convenient.
Use a liquid barrier film. A barrier film protects the victim's skin from unwanted contact with liquids or other irritants.

Avoid talcum powder. Talcum powder irritates baby's sensitive skin, further aggravating it and leading to diaper rash. If your baby is suffering from diaper rash, avoid using talcum powder on his body till the problem is completely cured.

Breastfeeding the baby for long periods can boost your baby's resistance to infections and make him less likely to need antibiotics, which can contribute to diaper rash.

Diaper rash can occur in adults as well

Sometimes, adults who are incontinent may need a diaper as well. And, just as with babies, adults can fall victim to diaper rashes too. In adults, skin irritation may be caused by dampness, warm barrier environment, bad hygiene, incontinence or infection. The treatment is the same as with kids, don't wear diapers all the time, allow the skin to breathe, keep the area as clean as possible and avoid harsh detergents while washing the diapers.

Diabetes – Symptoms That You Cannot Afford To Ignore

Diabetes Mellitus is commonly known as Diabetes and has become quite common these days. Diabetes is actually a chronic disease in which high levels of sugar can be found in blood and urine. It should be noted that it is a condition where the body fails to utilize the consumed glucose properly. One of the major reasons for this can be lack of hormone insulin.  Another reason can be that the insulin available in the body is not working effectively. Diabetes can be of three major types - Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes. Once you notice the symptoms of diabetes, you should consult the doctor and take diabetes medicines.
In order to avoid getting dependent on diabetes medicines, here are certain symptoms that you should keep in mind. Let's take a look at them:
DiabetesUnusual weight loss: In case of people suffering from Type 1 Diabetes, unusual weight loss can be a major symptom. As your body is not producing the right amount of insulin, the body will seek to take help from other energy sources like muscle tissue and fat. They will be broken down for energy. As Type 1 is of a more sudden start and Type 2 is much more gradual, you will be able to notice weight loss with Type 1 diabetes.

Blurred Vision: You should remember that vision problems are commonly associated with Diabetes. High levels of glucose will damage blood vessels and pull away liquid from the eye lenses. This affects the ability of a person to see. If this symptom is ignored for a long time, then it can lead to blindness. This eye condition associated with diabetes is known as diabetic retinopathy.

Thirst and urination issues: Diabetics commonly face the problem of frequent urination and excessive thirst. The kidneys secrete high amount of fluids for which the body becomes dehydrated. As a result the body starts craving for essential amount of fluid in order to function properly. If insulin is non-existent, then kidneys will not be able to filter the glucose back to the blood. In this case, the kidneys try to draw extra water from the blood to dilute the glucose.

Tingling sensation in hands and feet: It should be noted that extremely high blood sugar levels tend to damage the nerves and blood vessels. As a result, there is a loss of sensation in the hands and feet. You will also feel a burning sensation in your hands and feet, arms, hands, legs, etc. due to a loss of motor nerve fibre. In medical terms, this is known as Neuropathy. This situation can improve when tighter blood glucose control is achieved.

Excessive time taken to heal bruises and cuts: If you are a diabetic, then you will find that your cuts and bruises will take excessive time in healing. When the amount of glucose in your body gets increased, its ability to heal cuts and wound get diminished. Thus, they take longer time than usual to heal or in some cases they don’t heal properly.

Now that you know about the diabetes symptoms, you will be at a safer side. It will help you decide whether or not you should consult a doctor. Once your diabetes is confirmed, take diabetes medicines and stay healthy!

The trend, Ayurveda is so in vogue off late that one might get confused how old this particular practice is. The truth is, Ayurveda is a 5000 year old system, dates back to the vedic culture. The aim of this system is to prevent illness, heal the sick and preserve life. Which means:
Ayurveda
  • Ayurveda protects health and prolongs life.
  • Ayurveda eliminates diseases and dysfunctions of the body.
Ayurveda is based on the premise that the universe is made up of five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether. These elements are represented in humans by three "doshas", or energies: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Theory of Bio-energies or Tridoshas:

The three doshas, or bio-energies found in our body are:
  • Vata pertains to air and other elements. This energy is generally seen as the force, which directs nerve impulses, circulation, respiration, and elimination.
  • Kapha pertains to water and earth elements. Kapha is responsible for growth and protection. The mucousal lining of the stomach, and the cerebral-spinal fluid that protects the brain and spinal column are examples of kapha.
  • Pitta pertains to fire and water elements. This dosha governs metabolism, e.g., the transformation of foods into nutrients. Pitta is also responsible for metabolism in the organ and tissue systems.
Ayurvedic Products:

The herbs commonly used in the manufacture of Ayurvedic medicine are highly nutritive with lot of healing properties. Today, Ayurveda and its herbal treatment flourishes side by side with Homeopathic, Unani Tibb and Western conventional medicine and is actively encouraged as an inexpensive alternative to drugs.

Throat Cancer – Know The Possible Symptoms

Cancer has become an epidemic these days. You should remember that though cancer medicines have become developed and more effective, it is important to know the various symptoms that indicate cancer. Whether it is throat cancer or any other form of cancer, you will have to note that understanding the symptoms and proper diagnosis will help you in getting the right treatment at the right time.

Throat cancer has grown quite common in the recent times. The number of people who have been diagnosed with throat cancer is on the rise. Throat cancer is also known as laryngeal cancer. It also goes by other names like vocal cord cancer, or cancer of the glottis. It is a type of cancer which effects throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx), tonsils and the base of the tongue or oesophagus (food pipe). Here it should be noted that alterations in squamous cells can lead to abnormal growth in the throat. When these cells start to multiply at an intense rate, tumour will develop which will block the wind pipe and can make swallowing difficult.

Possible reasons for throat cancer

Some of the major reasons for which throat cancer plagues are as follows:
  • Tobacco use
  • Excessive use of alcohol
  • Less consumption of fruits and vegetables
  • Being infested by Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Chewing of betel quid (paan) quite often
Major symptoms that can help you detect throat cancer

It should be noted here that like any other type of cancer, throat cancer too develops in different stages. If you miss out on the first signs of throat cancer, it can lead to severe complications in the future. Unless you know the symptoms, you will not be able to detect, prevent or cure this ailment at the right time.
  • Enlarged lymph glands in the neck
  • Persistent sore throat that does not improve in 1-2 weeks.
  • Pain and difficulty in swallowing
  • Ear or neck pain
  • Difficulty in speaking
  • Change in voice
  • Hoarse voice that occurs in the advanced stage of tumor as it attacks the voice box causing roughness as well as difficulty in breathing.
  • Sinus congestion
  • Weight loss
  • Patches in the mouth- white, red or dark patches that do not go away
  • Painful ulcers
  • Lump in the lip, mouth or gums
  • Bleeding from the mouth
If you suffer from any of the above mentioned symptoms, visiting an Oncologist will be of great help. Some of the major tests involved in throat cancer screening are as follows:

Needle biopsy: This technique helps to detect superficial lumps or masses. A specially designed needle is used here in order to collect a tissue sample of the tumor. This sample is then sent to a laboratory to determine the tumour malignancy.

Endoscopy: In this process a flexible tube with a light attached at one end is used to look into the throat and nose.

Panendoscopy: This is actually triple endoscopy which combines laryngoscopy, esophagoscopy, and bronchoscopy to diagnose the throat cancer.

Chest X-ray: This helps in detection of throat cancer and other likely metastasis (spread of cancer from one to other body parts) is done by this process.

MRI, PET and CT scan: These are common imaging tests which helps in the diagnosis of throat cancer. The patient is advised for MRI, CT scan and PET of the head and neck and CT scan of chest.

Correct diagnosis at the right time will help you cure the disease with cancer medicines itself.
