Cancer – Get to know some of the basic facts about this disease

When you hear the word Cancer, the first thing that comes to your mind is anxiety and suffering! People have this pre-conceived notion that Cancer can only lead to death. They think that though there are cancer medicines available in the market, it can never be cured. But the fact is that if the disease is detected early and diagnosed properly, then it can be cured and people can lead a healthy life.

What is Cancer all about?

Cancer can be said to be a combination of around 100 diseases! It is characterized by the out of control growth of various cells in the human body. You will be surprised to note that till date more than 100 types of cancer have been found existing in this world. Any type of Cancer is characterized by the cells of the human body that it affects. The cancer medicines are formulated to some extent depending upon the type of cells it affects. Apart from the branded medicines, certain generic medicines have also come up in the market now.

How does Cancer occur?

Cancer will occur when the body cells in the human body will divide itself at a huge pace and in an unregulated manner. In the long run, they will start forming lumps which are known as tumors. These lumps might even interfere with blood circulation, nervous system as well as digestive system of the human body and lead to formation of certain hormones that will affect body function in a negative way.

  • If you have developed Oral Cancer, then you will find red or white patch in your mouth. You might even face difficulty in chewing or swallowing, soreness in the lips, numbness in tongue, swelling in the jaws, pain in ear without loss of hearing, etc.
  • In case you have skin cancer, then you can find a red nodule on your skin, a waxy bump, a mole which changes size or colour, a big brown spot with darker speckles, flat brown scar, dark lesions on palms, nose, soles, etc.
Though different types of cancer medicines (branded and generic medicines) have come up in the market, treating Cancer will depend upon age of the person as well as the severity of Cancer. Some of the major forms of Cancer treatment includes surgery, chemotherapy and palliative cure. Your doctor will let you know which option is suitable for you.
